CRTC Chairperson: Gov's Telecom Policy Direction Announced

CA Gov

The government recently released an Order Issuing a Direction to the CRTC on a Renewed Approach to Telecommunications Policy. The policy direction requires the CRTC to consider how its decisions can promote competition, affordability, reliability, consumer interests and innovation in the Canadian telecommunications sector.

This new direction complements and enhances the CRTC's efforts to foster competition so that Canadians benefit from lower prices, more choice and innovative telecommunications services. This includes proceeding with the implementation of our new approach to mobile wireless competition and reviewing our approach to Internet competition. We will continue to roll out and improve our Broadband Fund, which plays a key role in supporting the deployment of telecommunications services in Canada's rural, remote, and Indigenous communities. The CRTC will also continue to enhance and protect the rights of Canadians when it comes to telecommunications services.

As we move forward to implement this new direction, Canadians can expect open, transparent, and respectful consultations leading to timely decisions.
