CURIOUS Visit to GPH: Collaboration and Learning

In late May, the Department of Global Public Health hosted an international visit within the EU-funded CURIOUS project, bringing together partners to exchange experiences and develop approaches to strengthening nursing education in Somalia.

The Department of Global Public Health (GPH) welcomed an international delegation from the EU funded CURIOUS project which is led by Maastricht University. The project aims to strengthen health professions education in Somalia through a collaborative capacity-building approach. Specifically, the project focuses on improving the quality, relevance, and accessibility of nursing education, ensuring alignment with labour market needs and national priorities.

The two-day visit, held on 25-26 May, started at Campus Flemingsberg with a study visit to the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society where the team got an introduction to the nursing and the specialist nursing programs with special focus on KI's educational approaches. This was followed by a very insightful visit to the clinical training center ( Kliniskt Träningscentrum, KTC) where Susanne Andermo, Hélio Manhica, Kristina Gottberg, Åsa Dorell, Ann-Christin von Vogelsang and Susan Martinez Vasquez created a very rewarding morning for the team.

Back at GPH, Educational developers Amani Eltayb and Karin Båge held an intensive workshop that focused on advancing curricula development and fostering knowledge exchange across institutions. Participants also engaged with examples of constructive alignment and active learning from KI's master-level courses and international midwifery training presented by Nina Viberg and Johanna Blomgren .

The event concluded with strategic planning discussions of the next steps necessary to create prerequisites for long-term cooperation within the CURIOUS project.
