Dangerous operation of a vehicle, Belmont

A man has been charged after a road policing officer's motorcycle was struck by a ute at Belmont overnight.

Around 8.30pm, the officer was conducting traffic enforcement on the northbound lanes of the Gateway Motorway near Mount Gravatt Capalaba Road when he detected a ute allegedly travelling at speed towards the Old Cleveland Road exit.

The officer intercepted the vehicle near the Old Cleveland Road off-ramp.

As the officer approached the ute it will be alleged the driver reversed at speed for a distance, colliding with the front of the police motorcycle causing it to fall onto its side and sustain minor damage.

The ute was later located in Parkridge Avenue at Caboolture where the alleged driver, a 60-year-old man, was arrested without incident.

The 60-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and serious assault of a police officer.

He is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 30.

Investigations continue.
