The Hills Shire Council is seeking both State and Federal Government support to improve a section of Annangrove Road after 18 injury-causing crashes were recorded over a five-year period (2016-2021).

At its Ordinary Meeting of Council on Tuesday, July 12, Council resolved to submit a $2 million grant application for safety upgrades to be introduced on this rural road, including installing flexible barriers, adding vehicle activated advanced warning signs and applying tactile calming treatment on both approaches to Annangrove Public School.

"As a Council, we are always looking to improve safety along our rural roads," Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Peter Gangemi said.

"There have been a number of crashes on Annangrove Road that have resulted in people being hurt and injured, including head-on, on the bend and straight road run-off crashes.

"I'm calling on the State and Federal Governments for their support so that we can install precautionary measures that will hopefully reduce the risk of accidents in this area.

"The cost of an accident is significant, and this also includes the toll it takes on those who are involved in the accident, their families and friends, as well as this community," he added.

Annangrove Road is one of six projects that Council will seek funding for under the Australian Government's Blackspot Program and the NSW Government's Safer Local Roads Program. Both programs aim to target roads where crashes are occurring and increase safety measures - such as roundabouts, audio-tactile line marking and signage - through the funding they provide.

The other road projects that Council has nominated for funding include:
