Director-General condemns killing of journalist Wilder Alfredo Córdoba in Colombia

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has called for an investigation into the killing of local television journalist Wilder Alfredo Córdoba in the municipality of La Union in southern Colombia on 28 November. He is the fourth journalist reported to have been killed in the country this year.
I condemn the killing of Wilder Alfredo Córdoba. Local media, like the one Mr Cordoba directed, shine a light on local conditions and deserve all the protection they need to carry out their work. I call on the authorities to investigate this crime and bring its perpetrators to justice.

Córdoba, director of local television channel Unión TV, was shot by unknown assailants while travelling on a country road.

UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
