Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has called for an investigation into the killing of local television journalist Wilder Alfredo Córdoba in the municipality of La Union in southern Colombia on 28 November. He is the fourth journalist reported to have been killed in the country this year.
I condemn the killing of Wilder Alfredo Córdoba. Local media, like the one Mr Cordoba directed, shine a light on local conditions and deserve all the protection they need to carry out their work. I call on the authorities to investigate this crime and bring its perpetrators to justice.
