Don't Put Goggles Away - Mullum Pool Open During Winter

Swimming pool

Fantastic news for swimmers with the Mullumbimby Petria Thomas Pool to remain open from May and continue operating over the cooler months, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our much‑loved community facility.

"This is wonderful news for our community who love swimming because finally our community can swim and exercise through the winter months," Byron Shire Mayor, Sarah Ndiaye, said.

"I have been pushing for this for many years and finally, with the support of Councillors, community and staff, we have installed a new heating system at the Mullum Pool, which will keep the water to a beautiful 27 degrees, for the majority of the year," Mayor Ndiaye said.

"Normally the pool would close in May meaning swimmers either have to stop for the winter, use the ocean, or travel to the Ballina or Tweed Shires to use their pools and let's face it - with the cost of fuel at the moment that's not viable for a lot of people.

"I will be at the pool as much as I can and I hope to be sharing a lane with lots of people," she said.

Winter hours are proposed to run from 7.00am to 5.00pm on weekdays and 10.00am to 4.00pm on weekends.

Entry fees and access arrangements during May and June will stay consistent with the current 2025-26 schedule and discount books for Byron Bay or Mullumbimby pools are valid until the end of June.

Season pass holders for 2025-26 will have the option to extend their passes to include May and June entry at Mullumbimby with a pro rata payment.

The pool will close for three‑weeks after the July school holidays for maintenance and capital improvements.

Operating hours for the Mullumbimby Pool are on Council's website.
