Engineers Australia Canberra Division President

Engineers Australia has announced the appointment of Dr Therese Flapper as Canberra Division President.

As a global infrastructure leader across water, roads, waste, energy and buildings, Dr Flapper is highly regarded as an influencer with over 30 experience in design and delivery, stakeholder engagement, planning, policy, and regulatory response.

Dr Flapper has been actively involved in industry associations throughout her career. She was deputy president of the Australian chapter of the International Water Association (IWA) - acting internationally in the IWA strategic and technical direction setting committees and councils – and NSW Australian Water Association President and national board member. She has been involved with the Engineers Australia Canberra Division for some years, most recently as deputy president.

Dr Flapper also serves the local community as a bush firefighter with the NSW Rural Fire Service, and previously as local Landcare President.

In announcing the appointment, Engineers Australia General Manager - Canberra, Catherine Carter said she welcomed Dr Flapper's community-first approach.

"Holding both engineering and environmental science degrees, Therese combines science questioning and engineering application to deliver community-focused outcomes. With engineering pivotal to Canberra's COVID recovery, these skills and her extensive local experience make her the ideal person to guide Engineers Australia's Canberra Division," said Ms Carter.

Dr Flapper will be supported in the role by incoming Canberra Division Vice President, Andrew McGeehan.
