A 17-year-old driver from Wynyard has had their car clamped, fined $1,000 and is facing court charges after being detected traveling at 126km/h in a 60km/h zone on the Old Bass Highway at Wynyard.
The driver was detected by police on Wednesday 21 December, who conducted further enquiries – resulting in the vehicle being clamped by police yesterday for a period of 28 days.
Inspector Nick Clark of Western Road Policing Services said it was disappointing to see this type of driving behaviour continuing in the face of ongoing public messaging.
"Young drivers are over represented in fatal and serious crash statistics and travelling at this speed is dangerous and puts people's lives at risk".
"The motoring public can be assured that speed cameras are being deployed at all hours of the day and at various locations across the state to detect speeding motorists. It's quite simple, if you don't speed you won't be caught".
"Police will continue to maintain a high presence on roads during the holiday season, particularly targeting the fatal five offences," he said.
