Driving under influence in Darwin

Officers from Darwin Traffic Operations apprehended two people for drunk driving earlier today.

Police were conducting random breath testing (RBT) between 7:00am and 8:00am at Winnellie when the two drivers were apprehended on their way to work.

A 29-year-old woman was issued a notice to appear in court for driving medium range after she returned a reading of 0.096 percent.

A 41-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence of a dangerous drug after returning a positive result for methamphetamine and for driving unlicensed. The man also had an outstanding warrant for the same offence.

The two drivers are due to face court at a later date and, if found guilty, will have their licences disqualified.

Police would like to remind drivers that they will conducting RBTs at all times of the day and night. Drivers are urged not to drive the morning after a big night.
