Drugs, Ammunition, Homemade Firearm Found in Car Search

A crash near the Bolte Bridge early this morning uncovered more than expected when drugs, ammunition and a home-made firearm were found in a crashed car.

Police were called to CityLink Freeway, near the Bolte Bridge, after a car was seen to slow before crashing into a centre barrier just before 3am.

When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found the male driver unconscious.

He was provided medical care before a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a quantity of suspected stolen property, drugs, ammunition and a homemade firearm, which appeared to be loaded.

The 33-year-old driver from Coburg has been taken to hospital under police guard.
