Drugs seized - Katherine

Police from the Drugs and Organised Crime Division have arrested a 66-year-old male for possession of 224 grams of methamphetamine.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said the drugs were allegedly located in a vehicle being driven by the male, Northern Territory Police say.

"A traffic stop around 11:00pm last night just south of Elliot has resulted in officers becoming suspicious and searching the vehicle.

"The male was taken to the Katherine Watch House where he was charged with possess and supply a commercial quantity of a schedule one drug.

"We will continue to target people involved in the manufacture and distribution of this toxic drug that has caused so much damage to our community," Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said.

Anyone who has information about the transportation or selling of drugs is urged to contact police on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers.

The male will appear in Katherine Local Court today.
