Economists Declare Tasmanian Economy Stalls Under Libs

Tas Labor

Leading economists have confirmed what Labor has been warning of, that Tasmania's economy has stalled under a chaotic minority Liberal Government.

What Saul Eslake says is Tasmania is in a technical recession, and it's no wonder as the economy has been hit by three consecutive quarters of negative growth, a massive drop in business confidence and a reduction in exports.

A shrinking economy sheds jobs and that's why we now have Australia's highest unemployment rate.

We have a situation where the minority Government is in chaos. The Liberal Government's revolving door of ministers is clearly having an impact on the economy.

Mr Eslake's focus has been for some time on improving Tasmania's poor educational outcomes.

Unfortunately, Tasmania has the worst literacy outcomes of any state in Australia, and improving those poor literacy outcomes will be a key focus of a State Labor Government.

We will take policies to the next election designed to improve education outcomes, especially literacy outcomes.
