It was confirmed on 9 July 2026 that EUTOPIA has successfully bid for an addition €7.2m of funding from the European Commission. The project – EUTOPIA EDGE – will embed and scale activities that connect our students, researchers and staff across borders. Over the next two years (December 2026 to November 2028), EUTOPIA will use the funding to embed challenge-based learning; support more seamless mobility; equip students and early career staff with the skills to build their futures in a changing world; and strengthen partnerships with wider organisations so that education and research respond to real societal challenges.
Professor Stuart Croft, Vice-Chancellor and President of The University of Warwick, said:
"Seven years since Warwick helped launch EUTOPIA, we are seeing the Alliance realise its ambitions to become a truly shared and integrated campus. This is a landmark moment for Warwick and our valued EUTOPIA partners to consolidate and expand how we work at regional, European and Global scales to the benefit of our students, researchers and staff. The European Commission's funding commitment is testament to EUTOPIA's level of ambition."
In 2019, Warwick was one of six partners to receive Erasmus+ funding in the first round of the European Universities Initiative. Following EUTOPIA 2050 (2019-2022) and EUTOPIA MORE (2022-2026), EUTOPIA EDGE promises to support shared institutional and Europe-wide agendas around skills, integrated education, research, innovation, and regional engagement.
Professor Michael Scott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), welcomed the news:
"I am delighted that EUTOPIA's core funding has been renewed for a further two years. EUTOPIA, with its six Global Partners alongside the ten European universities, provides Warwick with a unique platform for bilateral and multilateral engagement. This news, along with the UK's decision to rejoin Erasmus+, gives even more opportunities for our staff and students to engage with counterparts from across the continent and beyond. EDGE's vision of embedding international education opportunities for EUTOPIA's students supports Warwick's commitment to offer inclusive, high-quality international education for all".
Professor George Christou, Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor Europe, highlighted that:
"The EDGE project will allow the EUTOPIA Alliance to continue to develop and integrate flexible, joint educational and training offerings that will equip all students, researchers and staff with the skills required to meet current and future European challenges. Through EDGE, the EUTOPIA community will be able to move closer to realising its core mission, goals, and ambition of creating a European inter-university campus that connects the local and global. The University of Warwick looks forward to working with our EUTOPIA partners to create and embed innovative educational opportunities. Such opportunities will elevate international experiences for students, researchers and staff across the EUTOPIA and broader European educational landscape."
