With the bold growth and innovative partnerships spurred by Vanderbilt's Office of the Provost, Everette Fortner, BE'84, has been hired to lead the transformation of Vanderbilt's Career Center as vice provost of career advancement and engagement. Fortner is motivated to elevate the Career Center and enhance personalized career engagement resources for students, alumni and employers.
Fortner spent 20 years at the University of Virginia in strategic leadership, career, business development and teaching positions. He elevated their career center and designed innovative career development courses and high-impact experiential learning environments.
Before that he worked at top companies, including Kraft, Nabisco and Dun & Bradstreet.
Fortner reports directly to Provost C. Cybele Raver, which reflects Vanderbilt's commitment to facilitating bold and collaborative career success to students, alumni and partners in the university community.
"At Vanderbilt, we hold ourselves to ambitious standards in everything we do, and career advancement and engagement is no exception," Raver said. "We are reimagining the Career Center to be truly best in class-bringing together the strengths of higher education and industry to support students and alumni across every stage of their lives. Everette brings the vision, experience and collaborative leadership needed to lead this next phase of work, and I am delighted to welcome him back to Vanderbilt."
Fortner earned a chemical engineering undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt and an MBA at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
