Students of agriculture and agribusiness gained insight to their employment options when a Council-sponsored Farming Futures Career Fair was held at the University of New England last week.
The annual fair for tertiary and secondary students showcases companies from the agricultural and agribusiness sector, to broaden their horizons and help them make choices as they complete their studies.
"Council is a major sponsor of the event but we also took the chance to highlight a vast variety of employment opportunities in local government," Armidale Regional Council Mayor Simon Murray said.
"The fair is a one-stop showcase of the region's agricultural heritage and the multitude of career opportunities the sector offers.
"It's a fantastic opportunity for students and businesses in the industry to network.
"Current drought situations are having a heavy toll on the area at the moment, so it's great to see businesses, farmers and students come together to encourage and motivate each other."
Thirty-six businesses and more than 300 students, from Year 9 to university, attended last week's event.
The careers fair was followed by a dinner addressed by industry leaders who shared inspiring stories.
