Federation Council has officially lowered the curtain on its most energetic Ageing Well Festival to date, proving that our residents don't just grow older-they get more colourful!

Under the 2026 theme "Live Life in Colour," the two-week extravaganza (March 2-15) saw across the Council transformed into a hub of high-energy dancing, gourmet feasting, and artistic flair. From the greens of Mulwala to the studios of Howlong, the message was clear: life in Federation is about staying active, staying inspired, and staying connected.

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook, was thrilled with the turnout and the infectious energy of the participants.

"The NSW Seniors Festival is always a highlight, but this year's program was truly off the charts," Mayor Cook said. "A massive shout-out goes to our Ageing Well Advisory Committee. Their passion ensures our older residents have more than just a calendar of events-they have a platform to be healthy, social, and deeply valued. They make Federation a truly vibrant place to call home."

Festival Highlights: A Kaleidoscope of Fun

Corowa | Cooking in Colour: Kitchens heated up at Bluegum Catering and Cafe! Participants joined Kathy and Kristie to whip up a fresh, healthy two-course feast. While they ate, local dietician Jodie Sandral from Be Well and Eat shared expert tips on fuelling a vibrant lifestyle.

Mulwala | Tunzafun & Tucker: Who says amusement parks are just for kids? The Tunzafun Committee hosted a day of pure nostalgia, featuring unlimited mini-golf and plenty of laughs on the teacups. The day wrapped with a beautiful picnic spread from Sweet & Sour Sisters.

Urana | Boogie and Brunch: From ages 60 to 95, Urana was moving and grooving! Led by MLHD volunteer Chris Boyd, guests worked on balance and coordination through dance before refilling their tanks with a spectacular brunch at the Waterfront Pavilion.

Oaklands | Buttons, Beads & Banter: Creativity took centre stage as volunteer Gaye Johnson led a mosaic workshop. Guests crafted stunning masterpieces using beads and buttons, followed by a legendary lunch at the Oaklands RSL-including a sticky date pudding that was "to die for!"

Howlong | Paint & Sip Finale: The festival went out with a bang at the Howlong Golf Resort. Guided by local artists Michael Mack and Judy Elliot from Quirky Events, attendees pushed their creative boundaries to paint individual portraits, celebrating their success over a social lunch.

The feedback has been loud and clear: the favourite word of the fortnight was "fun." But the celebration doesn't end here. Federation Council is doubling down on its commitment to its older residents, with the Federation Ageing Well Strategy 2026-2030 set for endorsement at this week's Council meeting.

"This wasn't just about the activities," Mayor Cook added. "It was about the sense of belonging and the joy of celebrating this stage of life together."
