The final METRONET rail infrastructure project, as part of the long-term plan to transform and revitalise Perth's public transport network, will soon be complete with the announcement today the new Midland Station will open on 22 February 2026.
A community event will be held on Sunday, 22 February to celebrate the milestone and thank the community for their patience while works were underway to complete the project. More information on the community event will be announced in coming months.
Before the new station opens, there will be a 31-day partial shutdown of the Midland Line between Bassendean and Midland from Thursday, 22 January, to allow critical works to take place, including the demolition of the current station.
Train replacement services will operate between Bassendean and Midland during the partial shutdown, before the line reopens to a brand new, state-of-the-art station in Midland. The Morrison Road level crossing will also be closed during the shutdown, with traffic management in place to help road users travel within the area.
The new station has been relocated to the east of the current station location and features a contemporary design with a pedestrian overpass connecting the north and south sides of the rail corridor, a kiosk, passenger toilets, two bike shelters, and a new bus interchange.
There will be a partial opening of the new bus interchange from next month. The new bus interchange will feature 12 bus stands, toilets, and customer service facilities, as well as community-designed artwork across the canopy panels, undertaken by local artists connected with Indigo Junction.
Since January this year, a new multistorey car park has provided local commuters with a secure and modern building with more than 800 bays including 20 ACROD bays. The new car park features CCTV, lifts, duress alarms, and the provision for future electric car charging stations.
There will be ongoing finishing works for the New Midland Station Project after the station opens, which will include landscaping and the completion of the shared path.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
"The METRONET program has transformed our city, driven incredible job opportunities for Western Australians, and underpinned a robust infrastructure program for our State.
"The new Midland Station is the final piece of the METRONET puzzle and will act as a centrepiece for a revitalised Midland.
"I know today's announcement is one the local community has been waiting for, and they will be eager to celebrate early next year."
