The final stage of the Wollondilly Walking Track link from Cemetery Street to Joseph's Gate subdivision has been confirmed, with work to begin in the coming months.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council on Tuesday evening awarded the contract for stage three of this work to Form & Pour Constructions, at a cost of $657,587. The three stage link between Cemetery Street and Josephs Gate subdivision has been fully funded by the Federal Government & NSW Government, under the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund at a project cost of $2 million.
Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor has welcomed the news that the next stage of the walkway will soon be underway.
"It's fantastic to see locals - walkers, runners and cyclists - getting out and enjoying the walkway, and this next section will only open up further sections of green space to the community," Mr Taylor said."
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund was designed to deliver infrastructure and initiatives that will boost economic and social recovery and help to get residents back on their feet.
"The walking track is well-loved by locals and certainly well-utilised during COVID, the extension of the network of paths certainly will help many locals maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.
Mayor Peter Walker said he is looking forward to seeing this link to the growing Joseph's Gate area completed.
"Our expanding river walkway network has been extremely popular with the community, and it is great to have the final stage of this link now approved to get underway."
"This section will include a new culvert crossing across the Wollondilly River, and a further 440 metres of pathway to reach Josephs Gate."
Once completed the final link between Cemetery Street and Joseph's Gate will total 2.6 kilometres in length, bringing the total network of river walkways to well over 14 kilometres of shared pathway.
