Foley must apologise to Ombudsman

Liberal Party Victoria

Member for Albert Park, Martin Foley, must today apologise for his inappropriate behaviour towards Ombudsman Deborah Glass.

On Tuesday night, a "visibly frustrated" Martin Foley directly questioned the Ombudsman's judgement in delivering a speech at a book launch into the world's longest lockdown imposed by the Andrews Labor Government.

Ombudsman Deborah Glass has been a consistent voice exposing the overreach and inhumane nature of several of the Victorian Government's COVID-19 restrictions, lockdowns and mismanagement.

In December 2020, Ms Glass found Daniel Andrews' snap lockdown of the North Melbourne housing towers breached the human rights of residents and separately described the Labor's border closure as an inhumane, bureaucratic nightmare.

Shadow Minister for Government Scrutiny, Louise Staley, said Martin Foley must apologise for his inappropriate conduct.

"This incident was entirely inappropriate and Martin Foley must apologise."

"Time and again, the Ombudsman has stood up for the rights of ordinary Victorians and bravely called out the overreach of this government."

"No one should be shut down and for doing their job. Instead of attacking Victoria's integrity agencies, the Liberals and Nationals will boost the Ombudsman's funding and powers."
