North West Metro Regional Crime Squad detectives have charged a fourth person after a Hyundai i30 was attacked by a group of motorcycle riders in Melbourne's western suburbs last month.
Police will allege the four riders were travelling in convoy with around 50 others along the Tullamarine and Westgate freeways about 4pm on Sunday, 21 June.
It is understood the group made their way to Williamstown where they were allegedly seen speeding, weaving through traffic and cutting off motorists.
Following a near miss with the Hyundai on Grieve Parade, the driver of the vehicle came to a stop on Melbourne Road.
Some of the riders allegedly surrounded the vehicle, damaging the side windows and the windscreen.
The driver sustained minor injuries when the windscreen shattered.
Officers have been told some of the riders were allegedly armed with weapons during the incident.
The riders fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Detectives have continued to investigate the incident, today executing a search warrant at a Craigieburn address where they arrested the 20-year-old male occupant.
Officers seized three conducted energy devices, an extendable baton, a knife and also impounded a motorcycle.
The Craigieburn man was charged with:
- reckless conduct endangering serious injury
- affray
- criminal damage
- drive while disqualified
- use unregistered motor vehicle
- possess prohibited weapons
- handle stolen goods
- fail to comply with direction to assist with data under warrant
- improper use of motor vehicle (loss of traction)
He was bailed to appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 11 December.
Detectives have already charged a 21-year-old Mickleham man, 18-year-old Meadow Heights man and 17-year-old boy from the Hume area in relation to the incident.
Detectives continue to work to identify the other alleged riders, with additional arrests expected to occur.
