Fremantle Incidents

Fremantle Police are investigating two incidents in Fremantle last night, Thursday 22 December 2022.

The incidents under investigation are:

  • Incident 1: Just before 10:30pm police were advised of a crash in Fremantle. A silver Mitsubishi Lancer sedan was being driven south on Marine Terrace. At the same time a white Toyota Corolla was being driven in the same direction on the same road, behind the Mitsubishi. At the intersection of Russell Street the two vehicles collided. The driver of the Toyota failed to stop at the scene.
  • Incident 2: About 10:55pm police were called to the fuel jetty on Mews Road within the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour after a white Toyota Corolla was seen to be driven over the edge of the wharf. The driver had fled the vehicle.

Upon arrival at the fuel jetty, officers were provided information from members of the public in relation to where the man was last seen. A search of a nearby yacht club was completed and officers located a man hiding in the water next to a boat and jetty. It appears he was trying to flee the area on a surf/paddle board.

The 21-year-old Beaconsfield man was taken into custody. It will be alleged the man failed a preliminary breath test at the scene. It will be further alleged he failed a second, evidentiary breath test, recording a reading more than three times the legal limit.

The man was advised he would be charged by summons in relation to the crash and failed breath test. The circumstances surrounding the incident at the fuel jetty are still under investigation.
