From Covid to Cardiovascular Disease

Faculty op-ed in U.S. News & World Report addresses health disparities in Black community

Carmen Presti, DNP '12, ARNP, ACNP-BC, assistant professor of clinical, is a University of Miami Public Voices Fellow for The OpEd Project. Her first commentary for the project, "It's Time to Aggressively Target Another Top Killer of Black Americans," appears in U.S. News & World Report.

In this piece, Dr. Presti addresses the disproportionate burden experienced by Black patients that she has witnessed in her role as an acute care nurse practitioner in a high-acuity intensive care unit.

"I see the toll years of accumulated stress takes when they are trying to recover from cardiac surgery and too often suffer from devastating complications," writes Dr. Presti.
