Further Taskforce Ironside arrest, South Australia

Police from Taskforce Ironside have charged a man with serious offences following investigations into a shooting in 2019.

On Monday 16 September 2019 a man was shot in the leg in a car parked at a Hindmarsh business. After being shot the man was assaulted and his car stolen. The victim was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound and head injuries. The stolen car was later recovered by police in Bowden.

Police will allege the suspect fled to Thailand the following day and was arrested on 8 April 2020 when he returned to Australia. In September 2020 the victim withdrew the charges.

Today, Thursday 10 March, as a result of investigations and the continued review of communications transmitted on the "AN0M" encrypted communication platform, members attached to Serious and Organised Crime Branch attended a West Lakes address and re-arrested a 40-year-old Port Adelaide man and charged him with a number of serious offences relating to the 2019 incident; causing serious harm with intent, causing serious harm, aggravated robbery, breach of a firearms prohibition order.

In addition, the suspect, who is a fully patched member of the Comanchero Outlaw Motor Cycle Gang, was also charged with trafficking two firearms, breaching a firearms prohibition order and breaching bail. It is alleged that the offender trafficked the two firearms, a revolver and a rifle while on bail. He was refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday 11 March.

Detective Chief Inspector Darren Fielke said; "Today's arrest is further evidence of how the ongoing Taskforce Ironside investigations are continuing to impact on those involved in serious organised crime. Those people through their reckless and careless behaviour who have caused harm and put members of the public at risk will not do so with impunity.

The review of the AN0M messaging will not stop and this arrest should send a message and a warning to all those who are involved in serious criminal behaviour and who used the AN0M encrypted platform that they will be held accountable for their actions."
