Mr Hua Liu, IAEA Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation, and Dr Mudar Al Okla, Director General of the Atomic Energy Commission of Syria, signed the Syrian Arab Republic's Country Programme Framework (CPF) for the period of 2026-2031 on 16 September 2026.
A CPF is the frame of reference for the medium-term planning of technical cooperation between a Member State and the IAEA and identifies priority areas where the transfer of nuclear technology and technical cooperation resources will be directed to support national development goals.
The Syrian Arab Republic has been an IAEA Member State since 1963. Its 2026-2031 CPF identifies seven priority areas:
- Nuclear and radiation safety
- Health and nutrition
- Food and agriculture
- Energy planning
- Nuclear knowledge management
- Industrial applications
