Garbutt near Townsville Airport – bushfire

Multiple Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) crews are on scene at a bushfire burning in Garbutt, Townsville. The fire is burning in grassland between John Melton Black Drive and Old Common Road in the vicinity of Townsville Airport. John Melton Black drive leading to Townsville Airport is currently closed. The fire is posing no threat to property at this time. Smoke is affecting the area and will impact the suburbs of Garbutt, Belgian Gardens and North Ward. Nearby residents are advised to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by. Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions. If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
