Gembrook Leisure Park opens to community

Community members are invited to attend a grand re-opening at the recently upgraded Gembrook Leisure Park on Friday 20 December 2019.

A number of family-friendly activities will be on offer including face painting, a skate demo and workshop, as well as a barbecue.

The reopening follows upgrades to the park including a new adventure playground, shelters and barbecues, a multi-use sports court (basketball, netball and soccer), and a state-of-the-art skate park.

Additional upgrades include:

  • pathway connections into the park
  • additional sealed accessible parking on Beenak East Road
  • hangout space next to the skate park
  • passive lawn area with barbecue shelters and tables
  • play space that includes accessible play elements, and adventure play options including flying fox
  • refurbishment of the existing public toilet

Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield thanked community members for their input into the park's design, and encouraged all local families to attend the opening day.

"The new Gembrook Leisure Park is a fantastic space for people of all ages from Gembrook and the surrounding areas, and Council sincerely thanks the community members who helped us create such an incredible place for our community to enjoy," Cr Springfield said.

An extensive consultation process was conducted in March 2018 to find out what the community wanted to see in the Gembrook Leisure Park Masterplan. More than 150 community members gave their feedback in an online survey. Later, a concept plan for the park received 160 responses before 800 votes were cast on the preferred playground design.

"Gembrook Leisure Park's upgrades will now not only meet the needs of the growing local community, but will also provide an important attraction for visitors to the area. I encourage all families to visit the park and experience it for themselves!"

The project was jointly funded by the Australian Government's Building Better Regions fund ($500,000), the Victorian Government's Growing Suburbs fund ($500,000), and Cardinia Shire Council ($500,000).
