Get a kick out of Salisbury Plays with Adelaide United

The popular Salisbury Plays is back again with a surprise Adelaide United star set to join in the fun at Golding Oval this weekend.

On Sunday 19 May, Golding Oval is set to come alive with an array of free sports, games, competitions, jumping castles, face painting and local stalls. All-weather activities will be catered for with the drizzly forecast not likely to dampen spirits.

Everything from bike checks, colouring competitions, karate demonstrations and mobile junk and nature playgrounds will be set up to inspire young minds to get them outside and active.

Salisbury Plays is a City of Salisbury initiative to encourage residents to head outside and discover the many parks and reserves in the community.

"Salisbury Plays is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together to enjoy some of the wonderful places and activities on offer within the Salisbury area," Mayor Gillian Aldridge, OAM, said.

Valley View Secondary School will be launching a new Adelaide United Soccer Academy for elite players in Year 8 from 2020 so will also have interactive children's activities on display – as well as a surprise Adelaide United star.

Principal of Valley View Secondary School, Greg Cox, said the school was excited about the Adelaide United partnership as well as the opportunity to showcase it at the upcoming Salisbury Plays event.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for young male and female elite athletes to develop their football skills in a professional environment and within the quality education programme they will receive at Valley View Secondary School," Mr Cox said.

Golding Oval, located on the corner of Redhill Rd and Kalina Ave in Para Vista, is home to the Ingle Farm Little Athletics Club and features running, jumping and competition courses. It also includes an open grassed strip with a junior playground, learn to ride track, basketball court and dog park.

Salisbury Plays is on from 12-3pm.
