Better East-West transport connectivity will boost productivity, mobility and liveability on the Gold Coast according to the peak body representing Queensland's property industry.
The Property Council of Australia has welcomed the Queensland Government's announcement of two new GC Surfer routes to connect existing transport and activity nodes between Nerang, Broadbeach, Robina and Miami, hailing the new links as being vital to solving the Gold Coast's transport puzzle.
Property Council Queensland Executive Director Jess Caire said the announcements represented a positive blueprint that would help both the community and industry plan for the Gold Coast's future growth.
"Transport infrastructure and city growth go hand in hand. Improved East-West connections will support the Gold Coast's continued growth, helping to unlock new development opportunities while ensuring residents can access jobs, services and recreation more easily," Ms Caire said.
"It is vital that planning settings leverage these new transport links to deliver housing, commercial opportunities and amenities in well-located areas."
Ms Caire said improving transport on the Gold Coast was a significant priority for industry as it seeks to shape the future of Australia's fastest growing city.
"Our members have long identified transport upgrades as a major priority on the Gold Coast as we seek to elevate the city's amenities and liveability."
"Confirmation that the rail reserve will be preserved between Varsity Lakes and Gold Coast Airport provides the forward looking, long-term thinking that shapes better planning outcomes," Ms Caire added.
"The Property Council looks forward to engaging with both the Queensland Government and City of Gold Coast to ensure these vital new links are planned with precinct and community development at the forefront."
