Great Escape Festival To Ignite New Year Celebrations

The Great Escape Festival is set to return for its sixth iteration, continuing its growth as Tasmania's second-largest contemporary outdoor music festival.

Thousands of music lovers will descend on Redbanks, in Nugent, for a multi-day New Year's celebration featuring national artists, Tasmanian performers and a wide range of outdoor activities.

Minister for Tourism, Hospitality and Events, Jane Howlett, said Great Escape had quickly grown into one of Tasmania's major contemporary music festivals.

"Great Escape has become a significant summer drawcard, attracting locals and visitors alike," Minister Howlett said.

"The festival not only showcases an impressive mix of national and Tasmanian performers but also encourages visitors to stay longer and explore our regions."

The festival features three stages operating from midday until the early hours, offering a diverse mix of live music and entertainment.

Minister Howlett said beyond the stage program, patrons could take part in yoga, dance classes, paintball and swimming, with on-site camping contributing to a relaxed and immersive festival atmosphere.

"Great Escape has stepped into an important space in our summer events calendar. It supports local artists, engages regional communities and delivers strong benefits for our visitor economy," Minister Howlett said.

"In 2024 the festival attracted around 3,500 attendees, including 600 interstate visitors who stayed in Tasmania an average of five nights – demonstrating the value events like this bring to our State.

"The Tasmanian Government is working together with our events sector to grow visitation and this year we expect even more revellers will join the celebrations."
