Works on the Morley-Ellenbrook Line continue to surge ahead, with Premier Mark McGowan and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti today joining students from Ellenbrook Christian College to dig part of the train line's new alignment, just south of the new Ellenbrook Station.
The alignment will see the train line travel between the school buildings and college oval, with a new pedestrian underpass connecting the two sites, and creating a safe access point for the school community.
The corridor has been reserved for a rail line development since the early 1990s.
The State Government has been working closely with the college during the planning and development phase of the project, along with funding a new $2.8 million sport and recreation pavilion on the western side of the rail line.
While works are proceeding, safe access to the oval throughout the construction phase will be maintained.
The Morley-Ellenbrook Line's five new stations will serve Perth's north-eastern suburbs - supporting existing communities with improved transport connections - while also creating new communities through integrated station precincts.
Works on the project are well underway including:
- two dive structures connecting the line to Tonkin Highway;
- the new Broun Avenue Bridge as part of the Tonkin Gap project; and
- construction of the Ellenbrook, Malaga and Whiteman Park stations.
The 21-kilometre long Morley-Ellenbrook Line will give people living and working in Perth's north-eastern suburbs easy access to train services, and a 30-minute ride to the CBD from Ellenbrook.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
"We are powering ahead on METRONET, with major infrastructure rolling out from Yanchep to Byford and right across our suburbs.
"With five new stations and 21 kilometres of new rail, the Morley-Ellenbrook Line will fundamentally change how people living in our north-eastern suburbs are able to get to and from the city, as well as access employment and education.
"We thank the Ellenbrook Christian College for their ongoing support and involvement in this major METRONET project - it is terrific to see the students helping to build a project that will transform their community."

"This week we opened the new Airport Line as part of METRONET, but there is a lot of work still ahead as we deliver a number of transformational public transport infrastructure projects across the city.
"The Morley-Ellenbrook Line has been talked about by many previous Governments but we're not just talking - we're doing, and the communities living along this new rail line can see just how much work is underway.
"It was fantastic to see so many students enjoying the festivities today - and playing a role in delivering a project that will serve their community for many decades to come."
