Helen Emmerson has chosen to resign from her role as CEO of Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) after ten years of senior leadership.
A Registered Nurse by training, Ms Emmerson started with Southern Cross Care in 2013 as a Project Officer, then General Manager: Residential Services, then Head of Care before becoming CEO in 2018.
Monique Reynolds will take on the role of interim CEO from 18 September 2023. Monique is well known within SCC as she has served on the Board from 2017 until recently. Monique's extensive experience in executive roles and familiarity with SC will ensure smooth operations during this our transition period.
"On behalf of the Board and Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) I thank Helen for her hard work over the last decade and wish her all the very best for her future endeavours," Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) Chair Lawrence Hallinan said.
"Helen leaves Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) in excellent shape. All residential aged care facilities have obtained full accreditation, home care services and retirement living have transition plans for a positive future.
"The importance that Helen placed on the role of registered nurses, both in care and in management, will rank high among her legacies. She will also be remembered for her mantra: 'ageing is everyone's business'."
Ms Emmerson said she had cherished her time at Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) and was ready for a new chapter.
"Very early in my career as a Registered Nurse I realised that aged care was an area I was passionate about and an area where I believed I could make a real difference. My experience at Southern Cross Care over the past decade has emphatically confirmed that belief," Ms Emmerson said.
"It is sadly all too common to talk about aged care in a negative context, and yet the work I have seen our team doing for our residents has been nothing short of inspiring. I'm so proud of what we have achieved together at Southern Cross Care (NSW & ACT) during my time here.
"It has been an honour and a privilege to lead the team at SCC. I would like to thank the staff, especially our frontline staff for working tirelessly over the past very challenging few years to enable our residents and clients to live life to the full."
