City of Whittlesea residents are invited to share their ideas on the future use and development of our municipality's largest regional park, Quarry Hills Regional Parklands.
Located amongst the City's growth suburbs, the parklands are a striking feature in the area's landscape, providing spectacular views across Melbourne.
Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson said that the Quarry Hills Parklands plays a significant role in our natural landscape and is a defining open space feature in the municipality.
"The 330-hectare parklands will ultimately expand to cover approximately 1100 hectares, or 2.3 per cent of the municipality, and will be home to a number of new facilities including the Granite Hills Playground and the Aboriginal Gathering Place," Administrator Wilson said.
A draft Future Directions Plan has been developed in partnership with the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning outlining the proposed vision that will guide the long-term plans for the area.
"Previous consultation with the community and stakeholders has informed the draft Future Directions Plan and we have also incorporated insights from a Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung cultural values study that was undertaken."
"Quarry Hills is a stunning area that is rich in history, culture and ecologically significant features and we want to ensure that the parklands become a place for exploration, reconciliation, healing, learning and play, for our community and also for visitors to the area," Ms Wilson said.
The draft plan sets out a new vision and objectives for the parklands, which are articulated through the key themes of People, Place, Environment and Economy.
"We want Quarry Hills Regional Parkland to reflect our community's values and provide a space that is welcoming and accessible,, while also protecting the history and natural beauty of the land," Ms Wilson said.
"We would love to hear your ideas on what you would like to see in the parklands, and I really encourage our residents to provide their feedback on the draft plan."
