Help with goat health at national roadshow

Agriculture Victoria's Goat Health Veterinary Officer will provide practical health and welfare advice at Meat & Livestock Australia's National Goat Roadshow later this month.

Dr Berwyn Squire will speak about how producers can increase productivity by improving animal health and cover key factors every goat enterprise should consider.

Dr Squire will be at the event in Ballarat on Wednesday 14 August.

"It's a great opportunity to talk about potential animal health and welfare issues – what to look out for and what to avoid in terms of illness and death," she said.

Dr Squire said she would be encouraging goat producers to build a positive relationship with their local veterinarians, as they were a vital source of help and information.

The Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) National Goat Roadshow profiles a range of new resources and tools for goatmeat producers and delves into the practical aspects of managing goats.

Topics include carcase selection, animal selection, biosecurity, Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis* (CAE) Code of Transport and profitability.
