Helping your neighbours through COVID-19

As we return to stage 3 coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions, it’s more important than ever for the community to work together to support each other through these unprecedented times.

We know that many of you may be feeling overwhelmed about the situation, and concerned for others.

We want to remind you of the importance of asking for help and the power of compassion.

We know many of you want to look out for your neighbours, especially those who might not have as much access to information and support.

Here are some resources that may help you, or people you know who may need it. We encourage you to share this information with your networks.

Giving support and helping your neighbours

Want to help others but don’t know where to start?

Take a look at our community kindness directory for a list of community networks, charities and groups that are doing amazing work in our community and beyond, and could do with some help.

You can also download our Hello Neighbour postcard (120KB, PF) to help you take that first step in reaching out to your neighbours.

Support for people who don’t speak English

If you or someone you know speaks a language other than English, you can find translated information about COVID-19 in many languages, including Auslan.

Yarra is also running radio announcements in our community’s five most spoken languages, as well as English, to provide important information about support available.

Emergency food relief

We’re working with local community organisations to ensure grocery vouchers, food packages and pre-made meals are available to those who need them during this time.

This includes isolated individuals, people experiencing homelessness or hardship, asylum seekers and international students, older people, people with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds, and people with a disability.
