HKU Faculty of Dentistry to hold World No Tobacco Day public events

The Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will hold two World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) public events - a Health Exhibition on Choose Health Not Tobacco will be held tomorrow (May 31) at the main lobby of the Prince Philip Dental Hospital; and a Faculty KE lecture: Tobacco Use and its Effect on Oral and Systemic Health will be held on June 18 (Tuesday).

The Oral Health Exhibition aims to raise public awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure, to discourage the use of tobacco in any forms in order to protect public health and the health of younger generations. Information on oral health, how to quit smoking and improve lung health will be provided at the exhibition.

World No Tobacco Day is held on May 31 each year by the World Health Organization (WHO) (https://www.who.int/). The theme this year is "Tobacco and Lung Health – Don't Let Tobacco Take Your Breath Away", to raise public awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco on oral health, problems of air pollution and second-hand smoke exposure to our lung health and well-being, and explain precautionary measures against diseases including cancer, chronic respiratory and noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and tuberculosis.​
