HKU, Peking University Sign Strategic Cooperation Deal

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Peking University (PKU) signed a landmark Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement, establishing a comprehensive blueprint for deep, long-standing collaboration on November 2, 2026. The agreement was jointly signed by Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, and Professor Gao Song, President of PKU. Leveraging the academic and research excellence of both world-class institutions, this strategic alliance is set to consolidate Hong Kong's position as a premier international education hub while injecting powerful momentum into the advancement of the Northern Metropolis.

Professor Xiang Zhang remarked, "The collaboration between HKU and PKU represents a powerful alliance between two century-old, world-class institutions. By seizing the strategic development opportunities of the Northern Metropolis, we will not only expand academic horizons for local and global talent but also pioneer a new paradigm for cross-border research and innovation. This partnership will generate a powerful synergy, contributing significantly to the high-quality development of the nation."

The strategic partnership will pool the premier academic and research resources of both universities, focusing on key initiatives across seven priority areas: expanding joint dual-degree programmes across diverse professional disciplines; establishing seamless, integrated undergraduate-to-postgraduate (bachelor's, master's, and doctoral) pathways to nurture outstanding local and international talent; facilitating dynamic student exchanges and experiential learning to foster cultural integration; and promoting reciprocal visits and academic exchanges for teaching, research, and administrative staff. Furthermore, both institutions will deepen their synergy in teaching and cutting-edge scientific research, whilst advancing other innovative collaborative projects of mutual interest. Crucially, both parties will actively explore establishing a "Peking University-University of Hong Kong Joint Centre" within the Northern Metropolis to anchor this milestone alliance.

This agreement marks the beginning of a transformative partnership. HKU and PKU will unite their strengths to cultivate the next generation of global talent, push the boundaries of knowledge, and make enduring contributions to both the nation and the global community.
