The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will participate in the "InnoCarnival 2025", organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission, from 18 to 26 October. This nine-day event, held at the Hong Kong Science Park, will focus on the theme "I&T Unlocks Your Dream". HKU will showcase ten cutting-edge research achievements developed by staff and student teams, aiming to transform academic excellence into impactful real-world solutions and facilitate Hong Kong to become an international innovation and technology hub.

HKU's exhibitions feature technologies across various fields, including health technology, artificial intelligence in education, smart construction, engineering, and ecological environment. Among the highlights is the project on "AI Identification of Light Pollution Sources," which tackles the issue of light pollution in Hong Kong. An HKU research team has developed an AI algorithm that detects and classifies light sources in nighttime street photos. This algorithm further analyses and identifies whether these sources originate from commercial buildings or public streets, enabling recommendations for improvement solutions aimed at reducing the impact of light pollution on residents' lives.

In response to the growing concern over students' mental health, HKU students have also developed the " MindMinute" mobile application. This app features an AI chatbot that engages students in therapeutic conversations, offering companionship and interactive experiences. It helps identify students' stress levels and directs them to professional support services when necessary. This project won 2nd Place at the Greater Bay Area STEAM Excellence Award 2025 (Life & Health – Tertiary Level).

Other key exhibits include the "mskalign-iwearable Intelligent Musculoskeletal Management System", the "ScoliDetect", the "Cinnamaldehyde-based Nanomedicine" for treatmenting rheumatoid arthritis, and the "Intelligent Bamboo Construction"

HKU aims to foster the innovation and technology culture within the community and among students through a series of interactive, everyday technologies. The University is committed to translating discoveries into practical solutions that address societal challenges, collaboratively building a better and more sustainable future.
