Hodgson Meets Poland's Energy Minister Motyka 1 July

On June 29, 2026, Canada's Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Tim Hodgson, and Poland's Minister of Energy, Miłosz Motyka, met on the margins of the International Energy Agency's Global Conference on Energy Efficiency. They reaffirmed Canada and Poland's strong and growing bilateral relationship and advanced cooperation in support of a secure, sustainable, and affordable energy future.

The Ministers discussed the evolving energy security landscape in Europe and the importance of reliable energy supply in the context of ongoing geopolitical pressures. Minister Motyka outlined Poland's priorities, including reducing reliance on coal, expanding renewable energy, advancing nuclear power, and strengthening energy infrastructure as part of Poland's long-term energy transition. Canada welcomed Poland's ambitious plans and emphasized its role as a stable and trusted energy partner.

The Ministers exchanged views on nuclear energy cooperation, noting Poland's ongoing work to advance its nuclear energy program, including the development of a second large-scale nuclear facility.

They discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation on liquefied natural gas (LNG) to support regional energy security and diversification efforts in Central and Eastern Europe. Canada noted its potential to contribute to global LNG supply, while acknowledging current market dynamics and infrastructure considerations.

They also noted mutual interest in building on current Canada-Poland cooperation on renewable energy, including wind power. They committed to continuing the discussion on how Canada and Poland can continue to partner across energy areas.
