Honoring Agnes OBrien: Dovetons Influential Pioneer

The City of Casey has honoured a beloved local resident Agnes O'Brien, recognising her tireless dedication to supporting young people in Doveton, and the lasting legacy she has left on the community.

Following community consultation, and reflecting Council's commitment to recognising the contributions of women in shaping local communities, the park adjacent to the Autumn Place Community Hub has officially been named Agnes O'Brien Reserve.

Family and friends joined City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen on Thursday 23 April to unveil the new signage at the park, celebrating her lifelong service to the Doveton community.

"Doveton has changed a lot over the years, but the stories, families and community leaders of the past deserve to be recognised," Cr Koomen said.

"Agnes devoted herself to supporting young people, creating opportunities, and ensuring no child ever felt left behind. "She made a difference in the lives of countless Doveton locals, and her kindness and generosity have left a legacy that deserves to be honoured and remembered."

Cr Koomen said the new signage recognises Casey's proud history and the people whose commitment helped shape the community it is today.

"It's more than recognising a name - it highlights the contribution and community spirit that people like Agnes represent," he said.

"I am delighted to see a stronger focus on sharing the stories of our past with our evolving and growing community. This is about connecting our past with our future and keeping the pride of Casey and long-standing communities like Doveton alive and strong."

In a touching tribute, son Steve said his mum lived an incredible life.

"Her legacy will live on forever through her family, through this park and through the people who have been a part of her life," he said.
