CoE/Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA)
The Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) has published its latest annual report, marking 15 years of monitoring and calling for urgent political commitment to tackle the evolving threat of human trafficking.
The report highlights several pressing concerns:
- Child victims of trafficking are still misidentified, treated as offenders and even punished for illegal activities. GRETA stresses the need to reinforce child protection systems and integrate anti-trafficking measures into humanitarian responses.
- Trafficking for the purpose of labour exploitation is on the rise. GRETA urges states to bolster labour inspections and social rights of migrant workers.
- Online-facilitated trafficking presents new challenges in the identification, investigation and prosecution of human trafficking cases. GRETA stresses the need of investment in training and digital tools to effectively combating human trafficking.
In 2024, GRETA concluded evaluation visits to 13 countries and published 12 country reports (Andorra, Aruba/Kingdom of the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland and Türkiye). Follow-up round-table meetings were held in 10 additional countries.
