Hume City Council's Hume Home Energy Upgrades program has been recognised on the national stage, winning in the Leading Energy Management Government Program Award category at the 2025 Energy Efficiency Council (EEC) Awards.

The announcement was made at the EEC Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony on Tuesday 27 May, putting a spotlight on the Council's efforts to support local households to cut energy bills, reduce carbon emissions and stay comfortable at home.

Launched in September last year, the program has already delivered 207 home energy upgrades, with 123 of these upgrades supported by Council rebates for concession card holders. Each week, more Hume households are joining the program and receiving help to make the switch to energy-efficient electric appliances – such as reverse cycle heating and cooling, heat pump hot water systems, and induction cooktops – as well as rooftop solar, insulation, and sealing against unwanted air leaks.

Residents benefit from free home energy advice, no-obligation quotes from vetted suppliers, and receive help to access state and federal government rebates. Concession card holders can also access additional rebates provided by Hume Council.

Hume City Councillor Steve Gagen was in attendance to accept the award, thanking the Energy Efficiency Council for the recognition on behalf of Hume City Council.

Thanks was also extended to program partners Yarra Energy Foundation, All Electric Homes, and Enviroflex for their ongoing collaboration.

The Hume Home Energy Upgrades program is a team effort. Together, these agencies are helping Hume residents to lower their energy bills and reduce carbon emissions—while future-proofing their homes.

Council looks forward to growing the program and supporting even more households to create efficient, all-electric homes powered by clean energy.
