Incident at South West Rocks pool

Kempsey Shire Council

Kempsey Shire Council is aware of an incident involving an electrical fault that occurred at South West Rocks pool on the morning of Tuesday 21 November.

We understand that this involved children from the local primary school who were conducting intensive swimming classes.

The facility was closed once the pool operators became aware of the issue. Professional repairs were carried out before the pool was reopened later on Tuesday.

Fortunately, no staff or students from the school were seriously injured.

Council has commenced an immediate investigation into the matter. We are working with the Department of Education and the pool operator.

We understand that parents and the wider community are concerned, given the nature of the incident and particularly as it involved primary school students.

Council, its staff and Councillors consider the safety of the community to be our first priority.
