Independent Review Of Export Grants Program

Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The Albanese Government is committed to opening up new opportunities for our world class exports and helping Australian business to succeed in overseas markets.

The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) program has helped more than 51,000 businesses diversify into international markets since 1974.

A requirement of the EMDG program is a five-yearly independent review to ensure the program remains fit for purpose.

This review, led by Mr Timothy Yeend, has now been completed and can be viewed on the Austrade website.

The Government will formally respond to the review's recommendations in due course. We recognise the significant role of the EMDG program in supporting Australian exporters, reinforced in this review by Mr Yeend, which extends beyond the monetary value of the grants, and provides recipients the opportunity to undertake business planning and encourages ambition.

I thank Mr Yeend for his work in carrying out an independent review of the program, as well as the stakeholders who took the time to provide their feedback, and I will engage with Austrade to consider the recommendations.
