ASM, in collaboration with CLSI and CAP, has updated Individualized Quality Control Plan (IQCP) resources previously posted on ASM's Clinical Microbiology Portal. The revised versions of IQCP templates for clinical microbiology tests include expanded examples of information used to conduct risk assessment and more referencing of lab protocols for evidence of risk mitigation strategies. Additional updated documents include Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST) as well as updated frequently asked questions and answers about AST IQCP.
These updated protocols are useful for clinical and public health laboratories. Laboratories which are updating or revising their IQCPs may consider adopting the updated templates or may continue to use the prior templates. If a laboratory is writing a new IQCP, the laboratory may consider applying these updated templates. A practical strategy would be to review these examples together with materials provided by your manufacturer, your accreditation organization, and CMS when developing your IQCPs.
