One of our country's most influential Asian Australians and Artistic Associate of the Canberra Writers Festival, Qin Qin will present two community events at the Bermagui Library in May.

Qin Qin (pronounced Chin Chin) is an award-winning author and speaker who was born in Southwest China and grew up in Canberra as a first-generation Chinese Australian.

She will present a free author talk at 10.30am on Monday 12 May to discuss her memoir, Model Minority Gone Rogue: How an unfulfilled daughter of a tiger mother went way off script.

Qin Qin is also offering a life-writing workshop on Tuesday 13 May from 10.30am to 12.30pm, to explore storytelling as a medium for self-discovery at a cost of $70.

Beginning her career as a model minority poster child at five-years-old, by 29 Qin Qin was a Harvard graduate with four degrees working for UNICEF.

After a life crisis, Qin Qin realised life wasn't an exam to ace and veered off-script which gave her the courage to pursue her own path. Her life mission is to live consciously on her own terms and help others do the same.

Council's Acting Library Services Coordinator, Linda Albertson said the book is a funny, sad, exhilarating and thought-provoking true story about what happens when you want to live life on your own terms, even when those terms go against everything you've ever known.

"It's a story of what happens when you choose love over fear and honour your authentic self; life can be bigger and brighter than anything you had ever imagined," she said.

"The author talk is an adult event, as the memoir covers challenging themes including coercive control and partner abuse."

Bookings for the author talk can be made online or phone the library on (02) 6499 2127.

"At the writing workshop, people will learn how to get to the heart of their personal story as both a tool for documenting their past and a path to freedom," said Ms Albertson.

"Whether you are starting out, mired in the messy middle or struggling with fear in finishing a memoir, this workshop will provide practical guidance and techniques."
