More than $3.4 million was awarded across eight projects under this program to help us deliver improved community infrastructure and to support local jobs.
But we're not done yet. Over the next month, construction will begin on Rotary Park adding a new play space to St Kilda foreshore. We will also be opening a new playground at Point Ormond. Dust off your footy boots and get back out to the improved Wattie Watson Oval at Elwood Park as it reopens to the public in late May.
You can expect to see the following in the coming weeks and months:
Rotary Park
We will be starting construction on a new play space between the Stokehouse Restaurant and Jacka Boulevard. In addition to LRCI funding, this project is delivered in partnership with the Rotary Club of St Kilda and the Stokehouse restaurant.
The new play space will include swings, climbing unit and rocker items and provide a safer park experience for the community, with protection to the park from vehicles along Jacka Boulevard.
Lighting improvements will provide safer access from the pedestrian crossing at the park entrance on Jacka Boulevard to the St Kilda Foreshore after dark.
Direct access through the park and through the Catani Arch will be closed during construction. The beach can still be accessed via South Beach Reserve or next to the St Kilda Life Saving Club. For more: Rotary Park - City of Port Phillip
Wattie Watson - Elwood Park
Sports fans and local lovers of open spaces have been awaiting this fantastic upgrade to Wattie Watson. We have completed construction of the oval and we are now establishing new warm-season turf grass. The sports ground has been reconstructed to include sub-surface drainage, a suitable soil profile, irrigation and warm-season turf. This will deliver a safe, compliant and quality sports field that meets current and projected future demand.
For the safety of park users and local commuters it has been identified that a safety goal screen with protective netting will be installed at the Northern end of the oval. This will to help prevent balls going onto Ormond Esplanade and incidents for passing traffic and oval users.

Point Ormond playground
We have already upgraded the pathways BBQ and picnic areas at Beacon Hill and we're completing the improvements in the area with a new playground that will respond to this special location, catering to all ages and abilities and will meet the current Australian Standards.
