Construction of Stage One of the Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct has reached the halfway milestone, marking significant progress on one of the largest community sporting infrastructure projects in Perth's south-east.
Supported by a $22 million investment from the Cook Labor Government's WA Recovery Plan and delivered as part of the PlayOn WA initiative, the $35.2 million project will establish a modern, multi-use recreation precinct to meet the needs of the rapidly growing Serpentine-Jarrahdale community.
Once complete, the redeveloped precinct will deliver high-quality sporting and recreation infrastructure for locals and visitors, including:
- six cricket practice nets;
- two senior AFL ovals with floodlighting and supporting infrastructure;
- a 1,500 square metre pavilion featuring four change rooms and an undercover viewing area;
- new entry road and more than 200 car bays across three car parks; and
- extensive landscaping and irrigation works.
With construction steadily progressing, the new Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct will soon provide local sporting clubs, schools, families, and community groups with a modern home for sport and recreation.
Stage Two of the redevelopment will further expand the precinct through a $10 million 2025 Cook Labor Government election commitment for the construction of a new BMX facility, creating a multi-sport hub that caters to a wide range of activities.
This project is part of the Cook Labor Government's PlayOn WA 2,030 by 2030 initiative, helping guide sporting and community infrastructure across the State through to 2030.
As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:
"Reaching the halfway point on the Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct is an exciting milestone for this transformational project.
"The Cook Labor Government is investing in the infrastructure growing communities need through our PlayOn WA initiative, ensuring grassroots clubs have access to modern, high-quality facilities that support participation, healthier lifestyles and stronger communities.
"Once complete, this precinct will become a major sporting and community destination for Serpentine-Jarrahdale for many years to come."
As stated by Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:
"It's fantastic to see this important community project reach its halfway milestone, bringing us another step closer to delivering the modern sporting facilities our growing community deserves.
"Local clubs are looking forward to having access to first-class ovals, change rooms, and community spaces that will encourage more people of all ages to get involved in sport.
"Keirnan Park will become a real community hub where people can connect, stay active, and support local sport for generations to come."
