Kicking goal for healthier sporting clubs

  • $320,000 Healthway grant awarded to the WA Football Commission to promote mental health and healthy eating
  • This partnership will also help improve the availability of healthier food and drinks in club canteens
  • The West Australian Football Commission (WAFC) will receive a $320,000 grant to deliver healthier club environments throughout the 2022 football season.

The funding will allow Healthway and the WAFC to work together to deliver training and education to WA Football League and WA Women's Football League players on drug and alcohol awareness and mental health awareness.

Healthway, through the Think Mental Health campaign, will become a Premier Partner of the WA Football League.

The funding will also continue the current Principal Partnership between Healthway, Go for 2&5 and the WAFC to promote healthy eating and drinking throughout junior football clubs in WA.

This partnership will also help to improve the availability of healthier food and drinks in club canteens.

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

"This important partnership with the WAFC will help to reduce the exposure of unhealthy brands from the football community.

"Its junior players will continue to be encouraged to make healthier eating choices and will have access to healthier food and drinks at club canteens.

"At a senior level, we will also have the opportunity to improve the understanding of good mental health and how to identify those in need of support.

"This partnership provides broad access to one of the largest participation sports with strong networks all throughout Western Australia."
