Bringing together hundreds of experts, the Elgar Encyclopaedia of EU Law, published by Edward Elgar Publishing, provides an authoritative collection of entries spanning all areas of European law, from the internal market and external relations to Brexit.

The initiative unites leading scholars, including current and former King's students, alongside practitioners, civil servants and members of the judiciary, bringing together contributions from experts across Europe and beyond. It offers both academic and practice-oriented perspectives on European Union law.

The first volume was spearheaded and edited by the Centre of European Law's co-directors, Professor Oana Stefan, Chair of European Law, and Professor Andrea Biondi, Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union. Supporting them on the project were their assistant editors, many of whom are current and former students from The Dickson Poon School of Law: Irene Agnolucci (University of Bocconi), Guglielmo Finotti (The Dickson Poon School of Law), Alina Carrozzini, Efsane Erdogan, Mariasole Forlani (The Dickson Poon School of Law), Nina Hart, Christos Kalykas, Mark Konstantinidis (University of Luxembourg), Carlo Meo (University of Venice), Miriam Schuler, and Massimiliano Trovato. Their involvement played a key role in bringing the first volume to publication, highlighting the collaborative and cross-generational nature of the initiative.

Reflecting on the publication, Professor Biondi and Professor Stefan said:

"We are both delighted and a bit emotional as the first batch of our Encyclopaedia sees the light of day. This project was conceived together with the wonderful people at Elgar, especially Chris Berry and Ben Booth, as a venture that would go beyond academia into practice.

We were and are keen to be able to publish established practitioners and scholars, but also new voices, and thrilled to see niche topics submitted. It is, of course, not an easy task, but a very enjoyable one, and we have learnt a lot already. The assistant editors have worked tremendously on this, and we all know this is just the beginning! We are very grateful to the authors, assistant editors, and our publisher, and look forward to adding new content."

With further entries in development, this is the beginning of a comprehensive resource in EU law practice and academic research. Scholars and practitioners with expertise in any area of EU law are invited to express interest in contributing.
