King's Population Health Institute in partnership with King's Business School hosted health system leaders for an Executive Course on Value Based Healthcare on 22 May 2025
Held on 22 May 2025, the event brought together local, national and international health system leaders to explore evidence and experience in implementing Value Based Healthcare to address the challenges facing health systems around the world. The event was organised in partnership with Erasmus MC (Rotterdam), a founding member of the European University Hospital Alliance along with King's Health Partners.
The event built on the themes from the recent Building High-Value Health Systems: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence, for which the King's Population Health Institute hosted the London hackathon in April.
The Executive Course included internationally recognised leaders in the field, including Prof. dr. Arie Franx, Dr Linetta Koppert, Prof Sally Lewis, Dr Sam van Elk, Prof Paul van der Nat, Prof. dr Eric van Raaij, Dr Maike Tietschert. The sessions included a focus on the integration of value-based health care in pathways of care working across professional, disciplinary, organisations and system boundaries. The discussions throughout the day emphasised the importance of different forms of leadership, including clinical, patient system and community leadership.
Prof Irene Higginson (Co-Director, King's Population Health Institute) introduced the Better Health & Care Hub at King's College London, a cross-disciplinary initiative aimed at transforming how health and care systems support individuals with complex health needs, and those who care for them. The Hub addresses global challenges such as rising multiple long-term conditions, workforce shortages, and health inequities, advocating for a shift towards value-based, person-centered care. Through research, education, and policy influence, the Hub seeks to improve health outcomes, reduce costs, and promote equity. These themes were repeatedly returned to throughout the day.
This was an excellent day with some highly stimulating conversations about not only prior experience with Value Based Healthcare - but what it means for the future'.
